1976 was the 50th anniversary year for Pontiac. Pontiac really step their game up giving the Grand Prix a new look. A new split vertical bar "waterfall" grill and quad rectangular headlights and revised taillight lenses were Add. The Grand Prix had 3 models J,SJ, and LJ. The J model came standard with 160hp (119kw) 350 CID V8. The SJ and LJ came standard with 180hp (134kw) 400 CID V8. The 200hp (150kw) 455 CID V8 was optional on all the models. A number of special anniversary Grand Prix were produced. These models were based on the LJ model, they featured removable Hurst T-tops Rally II wheels and anniversary gold paint. Grand Prix production skyrocketed: Sales went up to 228,091 units total (a plus of 226 %!), making this Bicentennial year easily the best in Grand Prix' history
